I believe that the best ideas for transforming our community, come from the poeple who live here already. That’s the point of my book 50 Ideas for the North.
Communities need to be given the powers, money and capacity to transform themselves. That’s what I have been campaigning for over the last 30 years, here in Knowsley, the city region, the Northwest and the North.
Here are some of the ideas that local people have told me they care about. It would be an honour to champion each and every one of them.
Community Cricket Clubs
Recently, I filmed a piece with Freddie Flintoff in discussion about how community cricket clubs can be saved and fought for, as spokeskesperson for the Save Huyton Cricket Club.
Household Swap Meets
Rebecca is an artist from Tarbock, and is passionate about reducing the waste and cost of throwing things away which can be repaired and shared by others in the community. “We could organise household swap meets where we can be taught how to repairs things or give them to others who need them”
Political Education in Schools
Katy works in a chemist and thinks that the education for her kids doesn’t do enough to prepare them for the big decisions in life in the future. Kay believes that Citizenship education needs to be better.
