Building a Community at Make Huyton Village
I am part of a new community for businesses in the centre of the High Street, and we are attracting a lot of interest already from inventors, comms and PR people, photographers. And, in echoes of the old biscuit company, we even have a scouse sweets business.
I was one of the first to move in, publishing our book 50 Ideas for the North and building a communications consultancy from right here on the High Street.
But the bigger picture is how we are creating a community here, with a range of opportunities for local business and a new retail offering. It’s all part of a new plan of how High Streets respond to the change in the economy.
Knowsley Council are part of this exciting new vision, providing the unit, an old Boots, which Make CIC are using to build this facility.
But, our High Streets need more, bringing people back to the former retail units now sitting empty – it doesn’t have to be for shopping. We need working spaces, places to learn new skills, or create new inventions or pieces of art.
That’s what we are building here.
